Damaged and fragile nails: tips and advice to remedy them
Do you have brittle, split and soft nails? Then you’ve come to the right place, the nail expert Maryton will reveal all tips and advice to take care of your damaged and fragile nails!
Remove the damaged part
Did you know that your nails have the same composition as your hair? They are made of keratin fibers. Also, as with your hair, you must first remove the damaged part to prevent them from deteriorating again and again. But to do this, forget the nail clippers which tend to split the nails and prefer a nail file instead.
Choose the right nail file
Before we discuss the technique, let’s look at the equipment which is just as important. Prefer a fine-grained nail file rather than a stone or glass file. Why? Because this type of grain is much more suitable for the nail which is made of keratin. You avoid chipping it in a way.
The basics: always file in the same direction, without going back and forth to protect the nail when “cutting”. This can be from left to right or from right to left. In addition, if you have the skills, you can also use an electric nail file.
Choose a suitable nail shape
Weakened nails break much more easily. Also, to avoid any snags, it is preferable to adopt a rounded nail shape so that they do not catch on the slightest surface. Then prefer short nails to prevent shocks that could damage them even more.
Apply a base
Before varnishing your nails, remember to first apply a base (or base coat) to protect them from the pigments. This helps form a protective layer between the varnish and the nail plate.
Adopt healthy, caring varnishes
To take care of your fragile nails, it is best to use healthy products, otherwise known as “natural” products that do not contain problematic ingredients. It is even better if these varnishes can also be used as caring varnishes.
Use a gentle nail polish remover
And of course, don’t forget the nail polish remover! Although it is used to remove makeup from your fingers, it is still a product that can damage your nails as much as it can take care of them. Choose a “natural” nail polish remover without controversial components (acetone, benzophenone, hydrocarbon benzene, methyl ethyl ketone, toluene).
